The thermoforming process was used to make one simple piece of the yo-yo - a cover that protects the inside from dirt and debris. Thermoforming is well suited to this application because the part is thin and there are only smooth features in the design. In general, thermoforming is less expensive than injection molding both in machine cost and mold cost. |
